[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: xtide
Version: 2.9.3-3
Severity: wishlist

It would be very nice to have the world vector shoreline (wvs) data
available in a package for xtide. It gives a nice map display when
the program starts and a much nicer user experience. Since xtide is
installed in the menu, it is tempting for users exploring the system
to try out the program, so also for this reason it is good to give
the program an attractive appearance.

The wvs data doesn't have to be that big. The full collection of maps
from xtide's homepage is ~36Mb, but that includes several maps at
different resolutions:

wvsfull.dat - full resolution - 25,313,280 bytes
wvs250k.dat - 1:250,000 - 18,232,320 bytes
wvs1.dat - 1:1,000,000 - 4,896,768 bytes
wvs3.dat - 1:3,000,000 - 5,121,024 bytes
wvs12.dat - 1:12,000,000 - 2,933,760 bytes
wvs43.dat - 1:43,000,000 - 2,233,344 bytes

This data is available from xtide's homepage, also in unpacked form.
I checked the various resolutions, and the file wvs1.dat, which has a
resolution of ~ 1:1,000,000 is actually a really good compromise
between fast loading, reasonable resolution and small size (~5 Mb).

I received it from the BTS. Mail to <mok@bioxray.au.dk> was bouncing
yesterday and I had to use <mok@mail.bioxray.au.dk> to reach you.
Perhaps that was the problem with the BTS as well.

No need, thanks. I am CC'ing the message to the BTS as a reminder.

Thanks !
Peter
