Severity: normal

I request assistance with co-maintaining the ara source package. The package
is in a good shape, but there are few wishlists bugs left in BTS, which need
an experienced ocaml hacker to look at. Thanks.

ara is hosted at svn.debian.org/svn/ara

Maybe could we maintain it collaboratively within debian-ocaml-maint?

Cheers,

Samuel.

Hello Samuel,

It is not the repository that matters, the current one is just fine... also
ara has a pretty nice web page at http://ara.alioth.debian.org/, so I believe
we don't need reorganisation right now, but looking at the common/cli/gui
code and cleaning it up ;-) I guess that Berke won't mind to add more
developers with write access to the current ara svn repo who are ready to
improve the code.

Hello,

Sorry for the unresponsiveness :) Of course I'd be glad to have
other people develop & maintain ara, no problem.

I can do a little maintenance but I have no plans for rewriting ara.

So who wants what access on the Alioth account, what do I have to do?

PS. As you know I worked for the EDOS project for 18 months. I started and
Jaap Boender continued libraries for package analysis. I uncovered lots
of shortcomings in ara. Mostly, it doesn't support multiple
architectures.

If someone wants to do a rewrite, I think it might be a good idea to use
the libraries developed for EDOS ("DOSE"). I think I managed to have a
more or less clean API (I rewrote it shortly before leaving the
project)...

What about enlarging the write permission of your repository to all DDs
as described in [1]?

Where are those libraries available?

Cheers.

So I have to ask the alioth admins? George, Samuel: you are also admins
on the ara project, could you ask them? Or do I have to ask? (It seems
I don't have any special status on the ara project).

Sure, I asked alioth svn admins to DD-widen (that's should be a new verb,
right ;-) ara svn permissions.

Do you know if they are going to be maintained and/or released in the
future from there? This is interesting stuff, it there is the risk that
it get abandoned, we might be interested in importing them in the d-o-m
repository or in the ara one ...

Cheers.

retitle 450876 O: ara -- utility for searching the Debian package database
thanks

I'm hereby orphaning ara, due to lack of time and limited usage of it on my
side. The package description is:

Command line utility for searching the Debian package database
ara is a utility for searching the Debian package database using
 boolean regexp queries.

ara can perform sophisticated searches on that database. It is possible
to use any field of the package database as a search criterion and any
 boolean combination thereof.

ara can also call APT (or any user-configurable command) to install or
 remove packages matching a query.

There is also a separate alioth project for it:
https://alioth.debian.org/projects/ara/
as well as a webpage http://ara.alioth.debian.org/

Perhaps ara is best to be added to the git repo of Debian OCaml Task Force.
If you adopt this package, you should also adopt it upstream.
