Package: totem-gstreamer
Version: 2.20.0-3
Severity: important
For about a week - I'm not sure what upgrade did it, but it definitely started
with an upgrade - all video content is completely mangled. For example, this:
http://partiwm.org/static/screenshots/demo-2.ogg
(which should have no problems with unfree codecs or anything) displays like
a pattern of cyan and magenta lines and blocks to me. (I tried to take a
screen shot, but it came out with the video area completely black, sorry.)
The image is constantly changing, even when the video is paused. It looks
like some basic problem with decoding the video or blitting it to the screen.

I can’t reproduce that with the latest versions of totem and
gstreamer-related packages. Could you please tell us whether this bug
still happens for you?

It might be; could you test with totem-xine, xine-ui or vlc ?

Looks like a driver bug, then. Reassigning to the driver package.

Zack,
Which xserver-xorg-video-ati driver are you using? Can you try the one
in experimental? Can you look at /var/log/aptitude or /var/log/dpkg.log
to find out which driver you had before upgrading?
Since this happens on your Xpress 200 board, it's not clear whether it
is supposed to work fine...

This broke several months ago now; the log files do not go back far
enough. I will try the experimental driver.

I should also mention that the nonfree Flash player displays correctly
when playing e.g. Youtube videos, but then it freezes up after about a
second and a half.

I never got around to trying the experimental driver, but driver
1:6.8.0-1 works correctly on my original test case.
Youtube videos still get stuck at some random point but I totally
blame the Flash player for that.
