Subject: vpnc: automatically disconnect after 30 seconds
Date: Wed, 12 Sep 2007 08:57:06 +0200
Package: vpnc
Version: 0.5.0-1
Severity: important

What is happening is that after connecting to a remote server, I start ssh
toward a remote machine and after about 30 seconds from the vpnc connection,
the connection is halted and the tunnel closed.

I think the problem wasn't present in 0.4.0-3.1, but I am not really sure.

Bye,
Giuseppe

Hi,

I know it's been a while since you filed this bug. If it's possible, can
you please install 0.5.3 (uploaded to unstable recently) and see if the
problem still happens?

Thanks,
Eric

I had the same problem a few days ago. Currently I use version
0.5.1r334-1, but i found how to "fix" the problem. I add this command to
my connection configuratin:

DPD idle timeout (our side) 0

Do you want me to test the latest package you uploaded, without this
setting?

Bye,
Giuseppe

Thanks Giuseppe. If you've got a workaround that you're satisfied with,
then I don't think it's necessary to try changing your configuration
any. Go with what works :)

If that solution is reasonable to you, is it alright to close the bug?

Thanks,
Eric

The solution I found works only against two out of four VPN I use. I
cannot tell if the other two VPN are disconnected because of "DPD idle
timeout" but I can confirm that they are disconnected while working. The
disconnect always happens after the same period since the connection
starts.

Bye,
Giuseppe

Hi Giuseppe,

a new SVN snapshot of vpnc (version 0.5.3r512-2) is available in testing
and squeeze-backports. Could you test if you can reproduce the issue
with that version, and if yes, attach the output of running vpnc with
--debug 3 please?

Florian

closing this bug after 100+ days of 'moreinfo' without reply

just in case, upstream recently discussed an outstanding issue with
Nortel concentrators and mandatory "Quote of the day" messages:
