Hello there,

I have just upgraded my Debian Sid system and Azureus does not work
anymore.
Steps to reproduce:

1) Install libxml2 version 2.6.30.dfsg-1
2) Open Azureus
3) Try loading a new .torrent file

Here is the output given when starting azureus from a terminal window:

Azureus TERMINATED.

The mentioned file "hs_err_pid14993.log" is *extremely* long and I don't
want to clutter this report. If you think it's relevant, I'll attach it.

Upgrading to java 1.6 does not solve the issue.

Same thing with Evolution: when I start it, the window comes up but it
just crashes. No useful output in the window.

Reverting to 2.6.29 fixes both issues.

Thanks for any help!

Please install the libxml2-dbg package. Once installed, please run "gdb
evolution" and type "run" at the prompt. Once evolution crashes, and you
get back to the prompt, please type "bt full" and send what it displays.

Thanks

Mike

Hello,

I can confirm the reported problem #439843.
Downgrading libxml2 fixed it for me.

CC: evolution maintainers so they know about this problem if they got
bug reports about this.

That seems to indicate something cheesy with the new handling of LFS in
the zlib... libxml2 now uses gzopen64 while previous version used
gzopen, and the result seems rather strange, at least on x86_64...

I'll try to check this out.

Mike

Mmmmm it seems cheesier than that... I can't even reproduce...

Could one of the people having the crashes could try to reproduce with
xmllint, that would be helpful. (try a simple xmllint any_random_xml_file)

Thanks

Mike

I've experienced same crashes:

libxml2/2.6.30.dfsg-1 + evolution -> intermittent crashes when reading emails
libxml2/2.6.30.dfsg-1 + azureus + sun-java5-jre|sun-java6-jre ->
always crashes on startup
libxml2/2.6.30.dfsg-1 + azureus + java-gcj-compat/1.0.76-2 -> doesn't crash
libxml2/2.6.29.dfsg-1 + azureus + any jre -> doesn't crash

xmllint(from libxml2-utils ver 2.6.30.dfsg-1) doesn't seem to crash..
at least I can't find suitable xml..
