This is an issue where we the debiandoc-sgml-doc package really needs
to be beefed up. I think we need a description, guidance, and even
maybe more technical tools to help maintainers of localized
debiandoc-sgml-based documentation.

Possible table of contents:

  * Benefits of Internationalization (i10n) of Your Debian Documentation
  * Preparing Your SGML for Localization (l8n)
    - Break out language independant data
    - Dynamically populating data (e.g., current date and version,
      from debian/changelog)
  * Coordinating Translators
  * Building i10n'd Packages
  * Misc. Techniques for i10n
    - CVS use
    - Example Makefiles

Subject: po4a is the choice for i10n/l8n

Hi,

I happend to find this bug linked from Debian web page :-)
 http://www.debian.org/doc/misc-manuals#markup

The answer for tips for easier i10n/l8n is po4a these days. (It could
have been po-debiandoc.)

I do not know we have good tutorial but tool is there now and used
everywhere on newer Debian documentation. po4a(7) gives decent guide.

Since this is done deal, I am closing this.

Osamu

FYI: debiandoc-sgml is now UTF-8 compatible.
