Severity: wishlist

Hi,

This is mainly for the upstream, not a debian-specific wishlist. I
guess debian-bugs will eventually reach the upstream, so filing it
here.

The "rotate" is currently on "edit" menu item. It is natural to
expect this in the "view" menu.

Regards
Ramakrishnan

Hi,

The rationale for placing rotate in the edit menu is explained here;

Here's what I think we should do. Place the Rotate items in the Edit menu.
There's no standard HIG placement for this anyway, but that doesn't matter since
I have good reasoning for doing this.

In our blue sky future we'd like to remember the rotation of the document and
redo that same rotation when you reopen the document by saving it as meta-data
of some kind. Even if this is a per page thing we'd like to save it so the user
doesn't have to do the same rotation everytime they open the document. Now
since we're effectively editing the document (even if we're not actually
modifying the file, since it doesn't really matter to the person) we can drop
the rotation items in the Edit menu.

This evens out our View and Edit menu sizes and give better relation to what
you're actually doing. Plus EOG has been doing this for years so it's kind of a
        GNOME defacto standard anyway.

Subject: I agree with the reporter

Hi,

I do not know how to explain, but I agree with the reporter: even if it
is not a standard place for Rotate, I strongly feel that it belongs
naturally to the View menu...

In fact, evince is a VIEWER, and actions which affect the view, like
Rotate, fit inside the View menu...

Finally, if Edit contains actions that "edit" the document, then all the
Go menu items should be moved to Edit; the same for most of View menu
items (zoom in/out), which are remembered between sessions.

Cheers,

Subject: Keep it under Edit if it's actually modifying the file
Date: Fri, 04 Nov 2011 13:21:04 -0400
I discovered this issue because I tried Edit -> Rotate Right, saved the
PDF, reopened it, and then realized that the change didn't persist.

If an operation exists under the Edit menu, it should actually modify
the document.

So there should only be two options:
(1) Move it to the View menu, and don't modify it.
(2) Keep it in the Edit menu, and actually modify it.
