There are multiple lockups like this regarding I830WaitLpRing() in the
upstream bugzilla. The url above might be the most similar one, so I am
marking this bug as forwarded there.

Could you send the output of
    /usr/share/bug/xserver-xorg/script 3>&1
so that we see your whole config and log?

If you have Option PageFlip enabled in your xorg.conf, you might want to
remove it since the upstream bug says it is related. If you have
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.0.0-1 (the one in testing), could you try
with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.0-1 (the one in unstable) ?

Do you have an idea when this bug started to occur? When upgrading
xserver-xorg-video-intel?

Once I'll have more info from you, I'll add a comment in the upstream bug.

Brice

Unfortunately, I already restarted the system, so I am attaching the
current log (for working X).

I don't have it in my xorg.conf.

I use the one from unstable:

ondra@dabl:~$ wajig list video-intel
ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.1.0-1

> Do you have an idea when this bug started to occur? When upgrading
> xserver-xorg-video-intel?

Yes. Not from 2.0.0 to 2.1.0, but from xserver-xorg-video-i810 (1.7.2
I think) to
xserver-xorg-video-intel (2.0.0). So I switched back to i810, waited
for some weeks and then tried again and I thought it is ok. But today
it crashed again even with 2.1.0.

The detailed error log in the first report is already nice.

I see you have a i965 board. It increases the chances that your problem
is related to the upstream bug.

Done. Feel free to add anything there if you think it could help.

Ok.

As requested by upstream, I am changing the upstream bug where we point
to the one above (same lockup trace appears starting at comment #7).

The bug with the ring also appears on my chipset.

The bug happens so seldom, but leads in my case to a permament
restarting-tries of the X-Servers. I found no way to tirgger the bug,
it "just happens".

Unfortuantly, this bug make me nervous: I have to hard-poweroff the
laptop with an unsynced buffers on a crypto filesystem.

So I you have some debug version which I can run, which will log something to a file,
I won't mind help narrowing the bug.

Attached is the Xlog.

I know this may be hard to reproduce/debug, but could you see if
the new package in unstable (2:2.2.0.90-2) helps?

Unfortunately, as I wrote in the other issue, "dabl" is a production
computer, which I cannot use for testing (if I don't have to).
When there was no solution, I was trying everything to find the
problem. But now we found a solution for us - not using the intel
driver at all.

I don't understand these hardware problems, but it seems to me the
intel driver is just not yet production ready. So I think I'll wait a
year or something and then I'll try to install it again and report all
problems.

Again I am sorry for not being helpful much, but I am not the user, I
am the administrator here, so I just need it to work.

Ondrej

This bug occurs even in unstable (xserver-xorg-video-intel version 2:2.2.1-1).
Mine graphics card is Intel GM965. The only change is, that screen doesn't
turn black with cursor, but simple freezes. This happens mostly (but not
only) when using 2D graphics acceleration (playing xmoto for example).
Here is my output from kdm.log, hope it helps:

Subject: Way how to reproduce this bug
Date: Sun, 2 Mar 2008 17:40:16 +0100
Finally, I've managed how to reproduce this bug for me:
1. In Kpersonalizer, enable effect "Popup windows on panel" or something like
that (I'm using Czech version, so I can't tell you exactly).
2. Launch application, which uses 2D accleration (XMoto) in windowed mode
3. Move xmoto window to place, where it'll be covered by popup window from
panel.
4. And finally, move your cursor above any app in the panel, so the popup
window will be displayed over the xmoto window
5. Now, it should hang...
Hope it helps somebody.

Please report this upstream at bugzilla.freedesktop.org product xorg
component driver/intel. There are many different lockups with this
driver, there are very few chances that yours is the same than the one
reported in #432110, which is already closed by the way.

Talking to upstream directly, especially if you have an easy way to
reproduce would help a lot. Make sure you attach your xorg.conf and
Xorg.0.log from after the hang. You should do that with at least driver
2.2.1 or later (git master) and a very recent Mesa too (at least 7.0.3-rc2).
