Package: dazuko-source

Severity: serious

Usertags: proposed-orphan
Hi,
While reviewing packages that were not included in Etch, your package came
up as a package that should maybe be orphaned by its maintainer, because:
* Several long standing release critical bugs
* Security issues
* Low popcon Stats
* Has never been part of a stable release
If you think that it should be removed from Debian instead of being orphaned,
please reply to this bug and tell so.
If you agree that it should be orphaned, sending the following commands to
control@bugs.debian.org should do it (after replacing nnnnnn with this bug's
number):
severity nnnnnn normal
reassign nnnnnn wnpp
retitle nnnnnn O: dazuko-source -- <short package description>
thanks
For more information, see

If you disagree and want to continue to maintain this package, please close
this bug, preferably in an upload also fixing the other issues.
Thank you,
- michael

You requested that the message be sent to the package maintainer(s)
but either the Bug report is not associated with any package (probably
because of a missing Package pseudo-header field in the original Bug
report), or the package(s) specified do not have any maintainer(s).
Your message has *not* been sent to any package maintainers; it has
merely been filed in the Bug tracking system. If you require assistance
please contact owner@bugs.debian.org quoting the Bug number 423281.

Hi,
The Dazuko project provides a kernel module. The current release version
of Dazuko (and all previous release versions) do not work correctly with
the Linux kernel that Debian now ships. This is because Dazuko uses the
kernel LSM hooks, but Debian compiles the "Capability" module statically
in the kernel. (The capability module forbids other LSM modules from
loading.)
A completely new version of Dazuko is currently being developed. The new
version works as a stackable filesytem rather than using LSM. This would
allow Dazuko to once again work with the Debian kernel. But this new
version is not yet available in a stable form and it may be many months
before it is.
In my opinion, this is enough reason to remove Dazuko from the Debian
project. I (as maintainer of the Dazuko project) would hope that Dazuko
may someday rejoin Debian once it is successfully working as a stackable
filesystem. (Optimally, Dazuko would join the mainline kernel
development, which may allow it to later automatically become a part of
Debian.)

Message #31 received at 423281-close@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:
dazuko-source | 2.2.0-1 | source, all
Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.
Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems.
Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 423281@bugs.debian.org.
This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is
a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing
