Package: imagemagick
Version: 7:6.2.4.5.dfsg1-0.14

I've prepared an NMU of the latest upstream version of imagemagick fixing the
RC security bug and updating for the current jasper packages. The Debian
diff portion is attached. I plan on uploading it in about a week unless I
hear otherwise from you.

OK, here's another update to the NMU, including a fix for a brown paper bag
bug which would have made Magick-config completely unusable.

Which probably wouldn't have been that bad as we ought to deprecate
Magick-config in favour of pkg-config anyway. However, I'm not that keen
on seeing this NMU introduce a major new upstream version including a
soname change. Did you coordinate the library transition with -release
yet? Imagemagick has the potential to interfere with other ongoing
transitions due to its large number of library dependencies.
Luciano Bello, the new Imagemagick maintainer, and me are planning to
switch to the current upstream version in unstable soonish, anyway.
Hence, the patches you privided are certainly welcome, but please don't
rush the transition. Personally, I wouldn't mind a small-scale upload to
adjust jasper-dependencies, so imagemagick no longer breaks builds and
installations. Bug me enough, and I'll see to get it done myself over
the weekend. Don't know about Luciano's opinion on this matter, though.
Regards,
Daniel.

OK, I didn't know somebody was taking it over since I didn't see any
imagemagick bugs on a search in wnpp. I'm happy to leave those decisions to
you and Luciano, then, and I hope you find the work I did useful.

Hey guys,
after trying to compile a small tool, I figured out, that Debian's
imagemagick is kinda old :)
Looking at #420672 I see some work being done, but the last mail was on
the 27th of April this year, so I wanted to ask, if there is any work
being done, or need to be done for a new imagemagick in unstable.
Kind regards and big thanks for your work

Heh, but it's stable. ;-)

Luciano was working on a new upstream version, but has been quite busy
lately. Current status should be visible from CVS of pkg-gmagick on
alioth. If you've got a bit of spare time to waste, you're welcome to
join the team!
Regards,
Daniel.
