To: submit@bugs.debian.org
Subject: etch-installer suggests wrong gateway address (outside the net) if netmask is different from /24
Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2007 13:46:17 +0200
Package: installation-reports
Version: etch-install CD from 22.03.2007

If you install etch and your computer is for example in a 10.0.0.64/26 network you enter the following:
IP: 10.0.0.66
Netmask: 255.255.255.192
Then the debian installer suggests the following gateway address:
Gateway 10.0.0.1
which is outside the network.
The installer should check for the first address in the network and use this as recommendation.

This error occurs with the debian-etch install CD1 from 22 March 2007

Yes, I guess that calculation could be improved. Reassigning this report
to the netcfg component.

thanks

I've just tried this on the current SVN mini.iso (locally built), and when I
give netcfg an address of 10.0.0.66 with a netmask of 255.255.255.192, it
suggests using 10.0.0.65 as the gateway. I would assume that this has been
fixed silently since the bug report was made. Can you confirm that things
are OK and that this bug report is OK to close?

I'm closing this bug, since I cannot reproduce it, I feel that the problem
doesn't exist in the current installer, and requests for further information
have gone unanswered.

If you can reproduce this problem with a current installer release, please
reopen this bug with the relevant information.
