Package: tomcat5.5
Version: 5.5.20-2
Severity: wishlist
Hello,
just a quick note to let you know that since tomcat 6.0.10 the release has been tagged as stable.
So new packages to test it would be very welcome :)

Thanks for the note. Tomcat 6 will become a new package, so I'm doing an RFP
instead.
Note that Tomcat 6 uses Maven, IIRC. Perhaps it can be built without it, but
from my experience of the build system for Tomcat 5, I'm not sure I want to
mess with it...

It seems that this package already exists in the archive. If you have
uploaded the package yourself but forgotten to close this WNPP bug, please
read the instructions at http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp for handling
WNPP bugs properly. You should close WNPP bugs in your initial upload
with a statement like "Initial upload. (Closes: #413906)". Thanks.
Of course, it might also be that someone else uploading this package,
in which case the statements above don't apply -- in any case, the package
seems to be in the archive now.

Message #49 received at 413906@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Tomcat 6 is actually not in the (binary) archive.
Yes, there is a source package called tomcat6.
http://packages.debian.org/source/lenny/tomcat6
The only binary package built from that source package is
libservlet2.5-java, which is the JCP Servlet/JSP/EL API 2.5.
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/libservlet2.5-java
This is kind of odd, because it should not be specific to Tomcat at
all.
Are there any plans to build the Servlet Container as well?

Message #54 received at 413906@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Everyone,
I've been working on a full server stack packaging for Tomcat 6 to land
in Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex, based on the great work done in Debian on
Tomcat 5.5 and the preliminary work of David Pashley posted here. This
is an extension of the current tomcat6 source package.
The spec covering the work is accessible at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Tomcat6StackSpec
Your comments, by mail or directly on the Wiki, are greatly welcomed.
The packaging is still work in progress and hasn't been submitted for
inclusion in Ubuntu yet. I wanted to involve the Tomcat Debian
maintainers early in the process so that you can make remarks that I can
fix before inclusion. I would be very happy if you could take a look at
the packaging work done so far and let me know if there is anything I
should change to make it more likely for Debian to adopt it at one point
in the future.
You can access the debian/ bits at:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/16559607/tomcat6_6.0.16-1ubuntu1%7Eppa2.diff.gz
or through the bzr branch at:
https://code.launchpad.net/~tcarrez/tomcat6/full-stack-packaging
You can also install debs directly through the PPA described at:
https://launchpad.net/~tcarrez/+archive
Thanks !

Message #59 received at 413906@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Since the source package already exists, I have been told it's probably
better to file this as a bug against the current tomcat6 package rather
than as part of the Tomcat6 ITP bug.
This full server stack packaging proposal is now tracked in bug #494674:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=494674
Sorry for the noise.
