Package: iceape
Version: 1.0.7-1
iceape 1.0.7-1 fails to save preferences for skin selection.
after skin selection, about:config will show a proper entry
along the lines of my selection in the preferences window. after
one restart the changes do take effect and the selected theme is
used - but the line is gone. so when closing iceape and starting it
once more, the "general.skins.selectedSkin" entry in prefs.js will still
be gone and iceape will thus fall back using the "modern" theme every
single time.
this behavior is reproducible. unfortunately, i am not able to provide
any information on the behavior of the upstream version of seamonkey.
i wish to use the GrayModern theme which i install via iceape's
software installation function and which i get from here:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3594/
note that this bug is not a duplicate of bug #401620 but rather
describes a second time a problem in iceape's startup behavior
which was not resolved in bug #401620.

I'm not sure what's going wrong with your setup, but I installed the
mostly crystal theme on iceape, and I can switch themes with iceape
remembering my theme settings.
I saw that the theme you are trying to add is firefox only. Could that
be part of the problem?

This theme is for Firefox, and doesn't support Seamonkey. I don't even
know how you got it vaguely installed, it doesn't actually install
anything, and doesn't show up in the themes list.
On my hand, I installed the orbit theme designed for Seamonkey[1], which
just installed fine, shows up in the themes list and, when selected,
doesn't set the general.skins.selectedSkin preference, neither
restarting iceape (which brings the correct skin) does. And restarting
iceape again doesn't return to modern.
But maybe old preferences from your mozilla profile may have some
influence on the behaviour you observed. Does it do the same if you
move the ~/.mozilla directory away ?

the theme is not firefox only. it's just that the URL i gave above was
wrong. my bad. sorry. i must have had it from the developer's website:
http://mozilla-themes.schellen.net/
and it says there that the theme is compatible with mozilla/seamonkey.
in fact i had used it for quite some time with mozilla before mozilla
became seamonkey/iceape.
anyway..i ran a test with ~./mozilla moved away and it seems that the
problem is in fact deriving from some strange hickups in my prefs.
i'll get this fixed. and the bug can be closed.

This one indeed is seamonkey compatible.

I'd be interested to know what kind of hickups were causing your
problems, that might be worth fixing, for people having old preferences.

i am unable to pinpoint the problem. removing the theme and reinstalling
it did not work. editing prefs.js manually did not work either. in the
end i removed my old ~/.mozilla and set up a new account. seemed less
trouble than finding out what exactly causes the problem since my mails
are stored on my imap-server, bookmarks could be retrieved from backup
and the few remaining prefs were quickly reentered.
i think i'll use iceweasel+icedove from now on anyway.

I just downed the theme from the site you linked and it installs and
runs just fine here (iceape 1.0.7-1).
Can it be that something in your profile is causing this?
