[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Package: blender
Version: 2.42a-5
Severity: important

In top view (Numpad 7), if I grab or scale an object and then press 'y' to
restrict the change to one axis, the Xserver crashes. Same behaviour with
front view (Numpad 1) and 'z'.

Perhaps, this is really a bug in the OpenGL-libraries: Xorg.0.log's
backtrace has several functions from libglx.so and libGLcore.so.
Also, I experience these crashes only when using an ATI Rage graphics
controller with which I have "direct rendering disabled".
If I plug in a Radeon graphics controller, I get "direct rendering enabled",
and blender works fine.

I include my xorg.conf, Xorg.0.log, and lspci.

Followup-For: Bug #404087
Package: blender
Version: 2.42a-5

I can confirm this bug. The crash is reproducible. I have an laptop
with an onboard ATI mach64-based video card.
Direct rendering is not enabled (no mach64 drm module).

Followup-For: Bug #404087
Package: blender
Version: 2.42a-5

This is probably the same bug as bug 7205 reported for Mesa (http://www.mesa3d.org/): https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7205

Maybe it should be reassigned to some X-related package.

Hi,

first of all, thanks for your providing so much detailed info.

I guess that a good `merge candidate' would be #404738[1], that Michaël
Dänzer reassigned from xserver-xorg-video-ati to libgl1-mesa-dri some
days ago.

 1. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=404738

I guess that reassigning this bugreport to the same package, then
merging them would the way to go.

Cheers,

I tried this
(http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=mesa/mesa.git;a=commit;h=a1a0a29a5ad93be00989881055931e78941304a5)
patch against mesa 6.5.1 and the Blender crashes disappeared. Now I'm using
mesa 6.5.2 from Debian experimental and Blender works fine.
