Hi,
the package in question ("vstsdk"), is a proprietary one, and cannot
be freely distribute. I thought this was acceptable for packages in
contrib.
Anyway as the fst binary package depends on wine, at the moment it can
be actually used only on i386. So perhaps I should simply limit the
available architecture to i386 only. What do you think?
Ciao,

Hi Javier,
sorry for the delay, but I was on holiday and I'm still recovering the
old mails..

I've downloaded the VST development kit from the Steinberg site, and
accepted the use conditions. Then I've built the fst package (as you
would compile any other VST plugin using the Steinberg development
kit) and uploaded it to non-free. From my understanding this is
perfectly legal, as is legal to distribute VST plugins compiled with
the VST SDK.

Mmmh, I'm not sure to get this point, please would you elaborate?

We could probably upload that too then.

I think so, but I'll let more knowledgeable people answer this.

Free - you *CANNOT* distribute this package. Torben and I have made this
very clear. Please remove it ASAP. It is a violation of our intent and
of the GPL to distribute it.
If and when Steinberg changes the license for the VSTSDK, things will
change. Until then, it has to be removed. Please do it.

Message #48 received at 402945-close@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:
fst | 1.9-1 | source, i386
Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.
Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems.
Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 402945@bugs.debian.org.
This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is
a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing
