man helpfully (or so it thinks) turns the quotes into curly quotes, so
that if you cut and paste from the man page to a shell, it doesn't
work.

Version: 1.20.1-1

Hello,

I could reproduce this bug in a lenny chroot (with gawk 1:3.5.dfsg-4
and groff-base 1.18.1.1-21). The problem disappeared after upgrading
groff-base to 1.20.1-4, so I conclude this was fixed by the improved
Unicode support in 1.20.1-1.
