Package: libtorrent

Rasterbar's libtorrent library. C++ Bittorrent library on which several
clients are based on, including Deluge, BTG.
Homepage: http://www.rasterbar.com/products/libtorrent/index.html
Download via SourceForge:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=79942&package_id=81483&release_id=462448

Someone has created Sid and Sarge PPC and i386 packages at:
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/btg/debian/dists/file_index.html

3 clause BSD license

Not to be confused with rakshasa's libtorrent that accompanies rtorrent and
is already available in the repositories.

Could I recommend another name? Something like libtorrent-rasterbar? I
could change libtorrent9 to libtorrent-rakshasa and avoid confusing.

Cheers!!

I am trying to package this two packages (libtorrent and btg). I am well
advanced with libtorrent, and expect to have reasonable packages soon. BTG
seems to be more difficult, so I will need more time to package that one.

Hello there!

Felibe, is there any progress on this package? I'm really interested on it!

I've seen that there's a candidate on mentors.debian.org. Have you found
a mentor? If not, you should mail the mentors list :)

Best regards
Emilio

Yes, there are packages ready now. You can get the source packages from
mentors.debian.net

I have mailed the mentors list twice, but it seems I haven't had luck yet.
I'll wait a few weeks before sending a new message.

Hi, I too would like a libtorrent-rasterbar package. Deluge already
includes its own version statically, which isn't nice, and a package I
am making now (the lobby client for the game Spring) needs this library
as well.

So, I'd like to see what work other people have already done, and get it
into Debian if at all possible. I'm willing to build off that, or even
do the package from scratch if I have to, but that seems like a waste
since at least two people have put serious work into this package so
far.

Also, what is the status on renaming the current libtorrent to
libtorrent-rakshasha to avoid confusion?

Thanks,
Scott Ritchie

Hi Scott,
work on the package is well done and now I'm searching for a sponsor.

Please take a look at [1] and give me any kind of feedback about the
package. In particular, I'd like to read some comments about the patch
for building libtorrent-rasterbar against Boost 1.35.0.

It would be useful to know if other clients using this library can be
safely built against Boost 1.35.0. In fact, I think some clients (such
as BTG) need at least a small patch for asio namespace.

As I know, there have been no further discussion about this.

Cristian

Hi, I as the maintainer of libtorrent would like to say that I don't
believe there's some need for renaming the library, is not that if you
write `aptitude install libtorrent' the rakshasa libtorrent will be
installed (it's called libtorrent10), there's libtorrent-ruby too and
isn't conflicting with libtorrent rakshasa name so there's no really
need, I believe.

Regards.

That makes sense. How about a change in the short description, instead?
apt-cache search libtorrent should make it clear that it's the
rakshasha one.

Thanks,
Scott Ritchie

I agree, definitely. In fact, is done in the next version to be uploaded
to experimental.

Any progress on finding a mentor? I'd like to sync this package into
Ubuntu Intrepid and it would be very helpful if it got into Debian first.

Thanks,
Scott Ritchie

Hi Scott,

I'm working with upstream about boost-1.34/1.35 compatibility and some
changes to library versioning system proposed by me (in order to use
correct interface numbers and library soname). Release 0.13.1 will be
avaliable in a few days, then I'll work on the package.
I'm in contact with Michal Cihar (CCing this message), who would
probably be interested in sponsoring the package.

Regards,
Cristian
