Package:kernel-image-2.6.17-2-powerpc-miboot-di
Version:1.22
Hi,
tried booting the powerpc debian installer floppy disk for etch/sid but it
just got spat out. I used:
dd if=boot.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1024; sync
to put the image on disk and booted with the option key pressed, but didn't
get any debug.
The boot.img from etch installer beta3 with
kernel-image-2.6.16-2-powerpc-miboot-di worked, however the net-drivers.img
was too big and I had to break up the install at that point
While investigating that problem Benjamin Herrenschmidt sent this
interesting mail with a patch, which may solve the problem:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2006/09/msg00337.html
I have a powerpc power macintosh 6500/225.
Thanks in advance. Yours, Rob Homsi

That patch looks like it is a patch to the powerpc kernel images, not to
debian installer, therefore reassigning.
Cheers,

Frans, with all your lecturing to check a bit before commenting, i would have
hoped you would do so yourself.
The part of the kernel patched by this patch is totally unused in debian, it
is moved into mkvmlinuz, but even then, it is not used in debian-installer,
since the miboot images build code is not using mkvmlinuz since a year or so.
I even commented to this effect in a direct followup to the mail benh wrote
with the patch :
http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2006/09/msg00338.html
So you really have no excuse for doing such sloppy work, and i expect you to
be more humble when you comment about similar error i may make in the future.
Friendly,
Sven Luther

Message #32 received at 396458-done@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
We are closing this bug report against debian-installer
for one of the following reasons:
- it was reported with a pre-lenny version of Debian
Installer.
- indications in the bug report give the feeling that
the reported problem was lying in another software, unrelated to
D-I, which we can't easily identify.
- indications in the installation report suggest that it may have been
fixed in a more recent version of a D-I component
- it was successful and we forgot closing it..:-)
- it has no information we consider useful
The D-I team is currently in the process of cleaning out the old spool
of installation reports that haven't bene processed yet.
In case you think that the problem you reported has chances to be
still present, please reiterate your installation test with
a more recent image of D-I, if you're in position of doing this.
You'll find daily builds at
http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer. We recommend you choose
the netboot image, in the "daily builds section", then choose to
install "squeeze" when prompted.
If some problems are found, please report them with a new bug sent
against installation-reports.
Many thanks for your understanding and your help improving Debian,
past and present.
