Subject: xserver-xorg not working on Alpha architecture
Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2006 16:09:53 +0200
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.1.0-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

xserver-xorg is not working at all in Alpha architecture.
I have installed on an Alpha PWS 500 and the X server could not start
with two different video cards (and video drivers).
All are PCI cards: a Voodoo 5/5500 64MB and a Matrox G450 32MB DDR PCI.

Both cards works fine with XFree 4.3.0

The X server simply doesn't start, the process takes 99,9% of CPU time
and hangs until killed (by user kill -9).

Just ask if any other test is required.

X11R7.1 is confirmed working on alpha for tga2, ATI Rage and some
unspecified third card under both Debian [1,2] and gentoo [3].

Mixed results for ATI RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] [4], suggesting that
whether it's AGP or PCI may play a role.

I'm closing this generic bug report now - if you have issues on alpha,
please report more specific (and this bug is kept open
392500 [ ] xserver-xorg-video-mga: [alpha] fails with a Matrox Millennium II PCI
anyways, so if it is the same case, please add it to that bug report).

Cheers,
Andi
