I tried to implement some fixes in this package but each one revealed
another, deeper, problem. I've tried to contact the maintainer without
success so far, so I'm posting to the bug report so that at least
someone else doesn't have to do the same.
I began wondering about the future of odontolinux (if any) and whether
it is worth doing anything about the RC bug at all?
Upstream appears dead, there have only been NMU's as uploads for about 4
years and upgrading the package to php5, debhelper>=5 and debconf does
seem over the top for such a quiet package.
Should odontolinux just be removed from unstable and thence from testing?
Should the RC bug be downgraded and tagged wontfix?

No, it should not be downgraded.

hi,
even pulling in the postgresql-client build-dep does not help much (the
database handling is quite hacky, for example it always assumes postgres
to run on localhost etc. etc.). The package should be updated to use
something like `dbconfig-common' for setting up its database.

odontolinux has this RC bug which requires quite some overhaul of the
packaging to be fixed. I think removal might be more worthwhile for the
following reasons:
* This RC bug, and another potential one reported by lintian;
* Last MU in 2002;
* Maintainer seems MIA and is upstream;
* Popcon: 1 install 0 votes;
* Upstream website is down.
Combined, I don't think fixing the RC bug(s) is worth the effort for the
package in its current state.
Any objections to removal?

Even as Debian-Med adictive person I would say:
When you discover you are riding a dead horse,
the best strategy is to dismount.
So lets remove it. I'll drop the med-dent package from Debian-Med
that depends on OdontoLinux.
Kind regards
Andreas.

Message #72 received at 391889-close@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:
odontolinux | 0.6.1-7.2 | source, all
Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.
Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems.
Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 391889@bugs.debian.org.
This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is
a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing
