Subject: CryptoPP compiled with -O0
Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2006 17:36:38 +0200
Package: mldonkey-server
Version: 2.7.7-9
Severity: normal
File: /usr/bin/mlnet

CryptoPP is compiled like this:

g++  -fno-omit-frame-pointer -mno-omit-leaf-frame-pointer -o src/utils/lib/CryptoPP.o "-I/usr/lib/ocaml/3.09.2" -c src/utils/lib/CryptoPP.cc

(see
e.g. http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=mldonkey&ver=2.7.7-9&arch=amd64&stamp=1155891390&file=log&as=raw)

that is, without optimizations, which violates policy and wastes lots
of CPU cycles.

FYI: CryptoPP is a bit picky about CFLAGS.
Never use omit-frame-pointer and omit-leaf-frame-pointer with it, it breaks
the code:

The problem here was more the -O0. Would -O2 hurt (together with
-fno-omit-frame-pointer and -mno-omit-leaf-frame-pointer of course)?

Cheers,

Samuel.

If that is the case, then there is either a bug in CryptoPP or a bug
in gcc, and ignoring that and not using the option is not the
solution. Please file a bug report about this.
