Should have been more verbose.
I do not tend to mess below /usr/local on my boxes and do not remember
messing with files under
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gnome_sudoku/gtk_goodies.
So leaving a dead branch (/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gnome_sudoku)
after upgrading seems a bug.
On a side note, modifying the "subject" of this BTS mail by adding
"[Utnubu-maintainers]" is annoying and doesn't help in readability.

I see no relation with your bug report; is this an important fact for
this bug?

Well, that's good. You're not supposed to mess directly with stuff
below /usr/lib in any case.

Is there a dead branch? Can you list the contents of
/usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gnome_sudoku?
It might be a bug with gnome-sudoku not properly cleaning up compiled
python files.
Before the Python transition, this was done by packages in their
postinst / prerm, but now this is achieved by python-central /
python-support (here python-support) when the version of python
changes.

This is because all bugs to packages maintained by the "Utnubu Team"
are currently sent to a mailing-list. You can ignore the tag, and you
can use the subject of your choice for bug reports and followups.

Sure, see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=381001 and
the "ls -Rla /usr/lib/python2.4/site-packages/gnome_sudoku" provided.
Thanks for your time and answers.

Ah sorry, for some reason, I didn't see this the first time.
I've found something strange with the package, but I have no
explanation for the reason of the presence of *.pyc and *.pyo on your
system.
What I've found is that in the binary package in version 0.4.0-1 of
gnome-sudoku (from snapshot.debian.net), there were no dh_python
generated postinst / prerm snippets (in other words: dh_python probably
wasn't called during the build, and nothing would have byte-compiled
the *.py files).
However, if I rebuild 0.4.0-1, the resulting package will
byte-compile the *.py on installation (since dh_python is called).
I'm not sure what happened, perhaps the uploader of 0.4.0-1 kept his
build log.
Gustavo, could you check what happened with the build of 0.4.0-1?
Bye,

The gnome-sudoku package has been removed from Debian testing, unstable and
experimental, so I am now closing the bugs that were still opened
against it.
For more information about this package's removal, read
http://bugs.debian.org/430551 . That bug might give the reasons why
this package was removed, and suggestions of possible replacements.
Don't hesitate to reply to this mail if you have any question.
Thank you for your contribution to Debian.
