Subject: default dhclient.conf does not request interface-mtu
Date: Sat, 10 Jun 2006 21:49:21 -0700
Package: dhcp3-client
Version: 3.0.4-2
Severity: wishlist

The default dhclient.conf doesn't request the interface-mtu setting,
even though it is handled correctly in dhclient-script. It would be
nice if this was enabled by default.

Thanks,
Josh

Subject: Requesting interface-mtu a bad idea with some routers
Date: Thu, 21 Sep 2006 15:37:48 +0300
At least my ADSL router, A-Link R44, returns mtu=64 when interface-mtu
is requested. Such low mtu causes all kinds of problems, for example
running dhclient again on that interface leads to error "send_packet:
Message too long". If interface-mtu is not requested and the default
value is used instead the network works perfectly fine. These A-Link
routers are very common here and I suspect A-Link is not the only
manufacturer making crappy routers, so this change is potentially
causing problems for quite many users.

3.0.4-10 of dhcp3-client will reject insanely low MTUs and act as if one
wasn't offered/requested. Hopefully this version will make it into Etch
before it releases.
