Subject: Xvideo overlay displays only the upper half of the video image
Date: Sun, 09 Apr 2006 21:14:18 +0300
Package: fglrx-driver
Version: 8.23.7-1

Xvideo overlay displays only the upper half of the video image.

I have an ATI Radeon 9200 and a FP display with DVI output as the
primary display and TV-out as the secondary display. The resolution
for DVI FP is 1280x1024 and for TV out is 800x600. Xvideo overlay
works correctly if I drop the resolution to 1024x768 in the primary
display but this has no effect on the secondary display (TV).

If I recall correctly, this problem did not occur when I did not use
DVI output. At the moment I am unable to verify this though.

As a work-around I have been using opengl overlay which seems to work
fine.

With the previous versions of fglrx-driver I had somewhat different
bug: The xvideo output was resized so that it used only half of the
actual screen area vertically but displayed the entire image though.
That is, the image was vertically scaled to half of its actual size.
This bug appeared only with the DVI output when the screen resolution
was set to 1280x1024. DVI with lower resolution and the TV output did
not suffer from this bug.

I have been able to reproduce this bug with both MPlayer and kaffeine.

Software version information:

MPlayer 1.0pre7
kaffeine 0.7.1-1.3+b1.
fglrx-driver 8.23.7-1

xserver-xorg 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4
linux kernel 2.6.16.1

My display adapter is ATI Radeon 9200, below is the relevant lspci(8)
output:

The bug is still here. Each and every media player using xv on tvout displays
upper half of the movie. As fglrx bugzilla is down, I didn't manage to check if
the bug is already there.

Any fix?

Subject: Bug still exists in 8.28.8 - related to FBMM values??
Date: Wed, 20 Sep 2006 00:57:40 +0800
[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Hi,

Found this bug relating to the problem where Xvideo vertically stretches
and truncates the display. Looking through the XF86 logs the only
relevant info seems to be:

(II) fglrx(0): FBMM initialized for area (0,0)-(1024,1281)

(II) fglrx(0): FBMM auto alloc for area (0,0)-(1024,768) (front color
buffer - assumption)

.

.

.

(II) fglrx(0): Largest offscreen area available: 1024 x 513

This information seems to correlate with the portion of display which is
truncated. Looks like Xv overlay is using the initialized area instead
of the auto alloc area to "scale" the overlayed image, resulting in an
image vertically stretched and severely truncated??

This may already be known, but haven't seen any info on addressing this
bug. Workarounds cause significant increase in CPU usage, so would be
nice to see this resolved. Apparently Xvideo overlay last worked in 8.20
from what I see around the place??

Regards,

Richard L
