Subject: mozilla-mplayer buffer the media, then just shows 'stopped'
Date: Wed, 05 Apr 2006 16:18:49 +0200
Package: mozilla-mplayer
Version: 3.21-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

as stated in the subject, mplayer just stops after the content buffering.
this happens only in firefox 1.5, while the plugin works well in
epiphany and mozilla, so i don't know if this bug is related to firefox
1.5 or to the plugin itself, but the bug reported at this page:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=359914
let me think that this could be the right place for the bug report :-)

Confirmed. This broke in testing from an upgrade sometime in April '06
I think it worked at the beginning of the month, it definitely worked
fine most or all of March.

The package is completely useless at this point--behaves exactly as
described in the original posting.

By adding a "debug=2" line in ~/.mplayer/mplayerplug-in.conf and then starting Firefox from the command line the following significant error message is displayed (among many others):

READ: File not found: '/home/username/.mplayer/default.sub'

(where "username" is the actual user name)

Creating an empty file ~/.mplayer/default.sub solves this problem, and movies play again.

Cheers!

Looks like this is an mplayer configuration problem.
