Mikael no longer has time to maintain this package:

Arla has a number of release critcal bugs:

Presumably this will fix the majority of the release critical bugs.
(I have just filled a bug report against ftp.debian.org asking krb4 to be
removed from Debian.)

thanks
I think we should remove arla.
* Orphaned for 5 months.
* 5 RC bugs, 16 bugs total.
* openafs-client et al. provide equivalent functionality; most of
the differences seem to be behind the scenes. See discussion at:
<http://www.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-info/2005-December/020470.html>
<http://www.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-info/2005-December/020655.html>
* Already removed from testing.
* popcon: 218 installs, 191 votes.
Thanks,
Matej

I'd generally recommend people use OpenAFS instead of Arla on Linux (Arla
is more useful on the *BSD systems where there isn't an OpenAFS port), but
if anyone is interested in this one, note that nearly all of the RC bugs
would probably go away just by packaging the current version. Upstream is
very active; the current version (0.43 -- Debian has 0.36.2) was released
June 8th.
I'm happy to sponsor uploads of Arla although I don't use it personally.
I'm happy to see more AFS software in Debian.

Message #26 received at 358482-close@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:
arla | 0.36.2-11.1 | source, alpha, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
arla-dev | 0.36.2-11.1 | alpha, arm, hppa, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
arla-modules-source | 0.36.2-11.1 | all
Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.
Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems.
Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 358482@bugs.debian.org.
This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is
a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing
