Subject: Update?
Date: Tue, 7 Mar 2006 10:57:47 +0100 (CET)
Could Maintainers please give a short statement of their intentions with
PDO?

It is most easily enabled in the PHP5 source itself, since maintaining it
as a separate module (php-pdo) requires duplicating sources for ext/pdo,
ext/pdo_mysql, ext/pdo_pgsql and so on. I think this would make things
more difficult for the security team.

Regards,

Allard

PDO has been available in unofficial php5.1 packages for months now at
http://people.debian.org/~dexter/dists/php5.1/

Why is it taking so long to get PDO into the official repos?

Hi Simon,

Adam is working on new config system, which would allow us not to get
crazy with more and more extensions. PDO will be added after some time
when new config system is in place. Please be patient, thanks.

Ondrej.

Any news on the "new config system"? Do you need any help with that?

Yes, I'm offering some :) I can do development, testing, reviewing,
thinking...

Where's this phantom config system? Where's PDO? Are you just waiting for PHP6?

I don't understand the holdup with PDO. Even php.net says that PDO is
enabled by default, so people who compile PHP themselves from the
upstream dist will get it by default.

Best source I've found for binary PHP packages is dotdeb,
http://packages.dotdeb.org/dists/sarge/php5/

Subject: PDO in Etch would be nice

It would be nice to see PDO make it into Etch, so that companies
deploying Etch can use the native PHP binaries, as opposed to backports.

   * new upstream release. since this means the 5.1 series is deadware
in the eyes of its developers, we better get on this train before
it's too late. Note: this also fixes the htmlentities() exploit.
     Reference: CVE-2006-5465.
     Closes: #396766.
   * s/postinst/postrm/ on one critical line in debian/rules. whoops.
Thanks to Bart Martens for finding this (closes: #396873).
   * as a pennance i've enabled LFS support (closes: #359686).
   * new version now includes all mbstring headers (closes: #391368).
   * enable new built-in zip support.
   * enable pdo support for currently supported db types, and place the
extensions in the respective extension packages. future db
types will be added, but probably post-etch as they will probably
     introduce new packages/dependencies (closes: #348882).
   * move the mysqli module into the mysql module's package, and remove
the no longer necessary mysqli package.
   * massaging/removal of various patches to upstream changes:
     D patches/106-strptime_xopen.patch
     D patches/110-CVE-2006-4812_zend_alloc.patch
     M patches/006-debian_quirks.patch
     D patches/111-mbstring-headers.patch
     M patches/053-extension_api.patch
 .
