Subject: lirc: Irman driver stopped to work after upgrade
Date: Mon, 16 Jan 2006 19:58:22 +0100
Package: lirc
Version: 0.7.2-2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
In previous version I used to use irman driver. After upgrade:
Preparing to replace liblircclient0 0.7.1pre2-11 (using
.../liblircclient0_0.7.2-2_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement liblircclient0 ...
it doesn't anymore.
$ lircd --driver=help
Driver `help' not supported.
Supported drivers:
null
Reverting to old package solved the problem.
I think the reason is:
* Change configure option --with-drivers to none on debian/rules
in debian changelog file.

Yes, that seems to be the reason.
I will provide you with updated packages soon. And will want you to test
them :)

It appears that two changes are needed.
1. --with-drivers=all (0.8.0)
--with-drivers=any (0.7.2; untested here)
2. don't descend into the drivers directory
With these changes, the drivers (userspace) are built; dev/input (which is
the one which I use) is working here.

Sorry to be a bother, but are there any updates on this bug? Like a
work around or access to experimental packages? Been sitting tight with
unworking lirc for a little bit now.

I'd like to add (just for clarification) that the atilibusb also stopped
working at this change. I do believe that using --with-drivers=any will
solve the issue for atilibusb as well, but I just want to make sure that
you're not forgetting that driver somewhere in the process. :-)
I downloaded the source package, changed debian/rules to
--with-driver=atilibusb, and it worked as a charm.

Not that it matters. atilibusb needs no kernel driver (it uses only the
userspace libusb library; that's why I prefer to use it).

Subject: Workaround for lirc_i2c driver.
Date: Tue, 07 Feb 2006 12:01:02 -0800
This bug had been holding me up for a little bit, but I think I found a
workaround.
Setting "--with-drivers=any" was causing a compile error on the
lirc_gpio driver for some reason, and "--with-drivers=lirc_i2c" would
crap out during configuration, telling me I needed the kernel source
(which I have).
To fix it, I had to edit the configuration script so that when it built
the "any" drivers, it didn't build the gpio driver. All other drivers
compile just fine, and lirc is working for me again.
This really is a nasty bug though.

Hi,
this simple patch disables the build of kernel modules (which seems
brittle and unnecessary), but reinstates all drivers in the daemon
itself.
I've used it successfully for some weeks now.

Could you please upload a fixed package?.. pretty
