Hi!

sysfsutils version 2.0.0 is out for a while now, and packages are
available in Debian experimental. This version brings a new SONAME of
libsysfs; the API was cleaned up considerably for consistency, and
some convenience functions were dropped.

directfb needs some tweaks to work with 2.0. I prepared a patch at

  http://patches.ubuntu.com/patches/cpufrequtils.libsysfs2.diff

which makes this package work with libsysfs2. Can you please test
this, pass it to upstream, and prepare a new package?

I will upload sysfsutils 2.0 to unstable in about two weeks, unless
major problems arise.

Thanks!

Martin

you're late, 0.4 is in etch since 03/01/2006 and already includes
the neccessary modifications (see, your patch is against 0.3). It'll
just need to be rebuilt when libsysfs2 will be available.
BTW: will you immediately ask for libsysfs1 removal?

I have one for example :) Well it's not necessary related to libsysfs in
particular but (to make the story short):
cpufrequtils is developed on a gentoo box that ships a modified libtool
that will try to link statically if the shared library is in /lib and
the static library (-dev files) is in /usr/lib.
Please see #344662. You'll have the same problem on ubuntu's amd64.
The gentoo developer says that libtool doesn't support linking
dynamically with such a layout (some stuff in /lib some in /usr/lib)...
Simply having links from /usr/lib/libsysfs.so{,.2} to /lib will link
correctly.

Interestingly enough I just noticed that on x86 libcpufreq dynamically
links against libsysfs1 but statically links against libsyfs2 (using
experimental packages)!! Doh!

Will ask for help soon...

Subject: libsysfs transition next Wednesday
Date: Sat, 11 Feb 2006 11:53:19 +0100
[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Hi everybody,

Some weeks have passed after the initial announcement of libsysfs2,
and I didn't hear about any problems so far.

Now the first package in unstable uses libsysfs2 (bridge-utils); a bit
prematurely, since libsysfs2 is still in experimental, but a good
reminder to finally carry out the small transition.

I would like to upload libsysfs2 to unstable on next Wednesday (Feb
15). If anyone objects to that and needs transition work, please speak
up now, then we can coordinate the transition and I can help with
porting work, etc.

Thanks, and have a nice weekend!

Martin

I gave this an extra week since I did not hear any feedback. It's
uploaded now.

Thanks,

Martin

libcpufreq0=0.4-1+b3 has been rebuilt against libsysfs2.

Thanks
