I upgraded from version 0.2.1 to 0.2.2 and started noticing a funny effect in the GNOME menu. When I open the foot menu (applications), the contents are visible, but after a split second the menu is reduced to a tiny empty widget with no contents and only a few squared pixels area.
I also tried restarting the gnome-panel, to no avail.
I switched back to version 0.2.1 and the problem was gone.

Hello Javier,
Did you upgrade to 0.2.2 while running GNOME ?
Could you retry to see if it happen again ? It looks like a race
condition between update-menus and the GNOME menu update mechanism. In
this case it is not something that can be fixed inside menu-xdg.
Do you have files in ~/.config/menus or ~/.local/share/applications or
~/.local/desktop-directories/ ?
Cheers,
Bill.

I did, indeed.

I did and it seems to be in order this time around.

Who should address this issue in your opinion?

Just debian-menu.menu.

gthumb-usercreated.desktop menu-xdg/ mimeinfo.cache
menu-xdg/ contained a bunch of files.

This one did not exist after downgrading to version 0.2.1 but it does
exist now back with 0.2.2.
Thanks for your time,

Probably gnome-panel could be more robust.

So you have ran update-menus manually as a user after the upgrade ?
upgrading menu-xdg alone should not affect your home directory.
Cheers,
Bill

No, I haven't.
> upgrading menu-xdg alone should not affect your home directory.
The first time I attempted the menu-xdg upgrade I also updated the menu
package along with it. Maybe that caused update-menus to be run, or
somehow my personal menus to be modified?
Should I avoid running update-menus in the future, lest I end up without
menus :)
Thanks,

Followup-For: Bug #343469
On my testing sytem, I upgraded the system with dsesect today
and menu-xdg was upgraded (0.2.1->0.2.2) in a process but I
found that there was no Debian menu in the main menu of KDE
after upgrading.
Then I found this bug report and tried to upgrade menu-xdg outside
KDE and I got Debian menu again.
You said
> > Who should address this issue in your opinion?

but seeing that KDE has the same problem i guess this might be
a bug of menu-xdg. Isn't it possible to fix this annoying problem
inside menu-xdg?

This package is a dependency for K3b, but when installed, the GNOME
Applications list appears for a half-second & then disappears. Places
and Desktop menus are unchanged. Please advise a workaround if one
exists. Thank you.
