Subject: findutils: /usr/bin/updatedb should read /etc/updatedb.conf

Package: findutils
Version: 4.2.26-2
Severity: normal

/etc/updatedb.conf is sourced by /etc/cron.daily/find, but not if
/usr/bin/updatedb is invoked directly. This is unfortunate, because
this is the obvious way to update the database should this be necessary
"out of schedule".

The fix is so simple that I don't provide a patch, but if you prefer,
just tell me.

/etc/updatedb.conf is misnamed, it should called updatedb.conf.cron.

I don't think I am going to change updatedb.
It would break any locally set-up run of updatedb with custom
options. And the current behavior has been like this forever.

On top of that it is debian-only file.

I am pondering removing updatedb.conf and placing its contents in
/etc/cron.daily/find instead.

Yes, that would be a clean solution, too, and probably better if
upstream doesn't have it.
