Please build biarch packages for libasound, needed for biarch builds
of libgcj from the gcc-snapshot and gcc-4.1 packages. Patch at
http://people.ubuntu.com/patches/alsa-lib-biarch.diff
Note, that the 32bit directory on Debian is usr/lib32 for ppc64 and
the emul directory for amd64.

Hi. We are about to release 1.0.10 after several 1.0.10rc releases to
experimental; so, patches against the unstable version, while appreciated
are less than ideal.
How 'bout we add you to the pkg-alsa developers so that you can check in
(svn) changes to the current code yourself?

I am comparing alsa-lib-biarch.diff with the current alsa-lib_1.0.9-3ubuntu3_packaging.patch
and am wondering about the differences.
1. debian/control
In alsa-lib-biarch.diff:
Package: lib64asound2
Depends: libasound2 (= ${Source-Version}), ${shlibs:Depends}, ${bilib:depends}
Package: lib32asound2
! Depends: lib64asound2 (= ${Source-Version}), libasound2-dev (= ${Source-Version}), ${bidev:depends}
but in alsa-lib_1.0.9-3ubuntu3_packaging.patch:
Package: lib64asound2
! Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${bilib:depends}
Package: lib32asound2
! Depends: ${shlibs:Depends}, ${bilib:depends}
2. debian/rules
In alsa-lib-biarch.diff:
DEB_BUILD_ARCH_CPU ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_BUILD_ARCH_CPU)
but in alsa-lib_1.0.9-3ubuntu3_packaging.patch:
DEB_BUILD_GNU_CPU ?= $(shell dpkg-architecture -qDEB_BUILD_GNU_CPU)
and so on.
Should I just go ahead and use alsa-lib-biarch.diff?

There's a patch for alsa-lib-1.0.10/configure in there.

What's this about? Do we need this in Debian?

yes, ldd doesn't work for amd64 binaries on i386, if you're not
running a 64bit kernel. dh_shlibdeps -s -Nlib64asound2 should help.
Maybe look at the zlib package how to add the needed dependencies.

updated, no more ia32-libs* needed on amd64.
please could you consider adding the biarch support to the current
1.0.10 in unstable? the rationale would be to make the transition of
alsa-lib and gcj-4.1 to testing independent of each other.
