Message #5 received at submit@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal
The current maintainer of xcircuit, David Z Maze <dmaze@debian.org>,
has orphaned this package. If you want to be the new maintainer, please
take it -- see http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for
detailed instructions how to adopt a package properly.
The maintainer writes:
| xcircuit does seem to have an active upstream, and there is a small
| minority who like it; geda has a similar schematic editor. It's a
| slightly involved package involving C with Python and/or Tcl
| integration, and the outstanding bugs mostly address portability issues
| (and, more recently, the /usr/doc symlink). Although it should not be
| particulary hard to maintain, arguably there are better alternatives for
| it.

If nobody objects I'd like to adopt the xcircuit package.
I'm not a Debian maintainer yet but I've been thinking about applying
for a while. I use xcircuit in my work (electronics) so this looks like
a good place to start.

Do you still intend to adopt xcircuit? (This is just a ping, I'm not
interested in adopting it myself.)
Thanks,
Matej

Yes. There's been a lot of upstream development on xcircuit over
the last couple of months, with new versions appearing every few
days for a while. Now it seems to have stabilised, so I should
have a prospective package ready soon.

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen demands on my time I'm no longer
able to work on xcircuit. This situation isn't likely to change
in the near future, so if anyone else wants to adopt it please
feel free to do so.

Adjusting title accordingly... Of course, feel free to retitle it once
you have more time.

I think we should remove xcircuit.
* Orphaned for 11 months.
* 2 RC bugs, plus a soon-to-become-RC bug for the Python transition.
* Already removed from testing.
* popcon: 277 installs, 35 votes.

Message #67 received at 323678-close@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
We believe that the bug you reported is now fixed; the following
package(s) have been removed from unstable:
xcircuit | 3.6.24-1 | source, alpha, amd64, arm, hppa, hurd-i386, i386, ia64, m68k, mips, mipsel, powerpc, s390, sparc
Note that the package(s) have simply been removed from the tag
database and may (or may not) still be in the pool; this is not a bug.
The package(s) will be physically removed automatically when no suite
references them (and in the case of source, when no binary references
it). Please also remember that the changes have been done on the
master archive (ftp-master.debian.org) and will not propagate to any
mirrors (ftp.debian.org included) until the next cron.daily run at the
earliest.
Packages are never removed from testing by hand. Testing tracks
unstable and will automatically remove packages which were removed
from unstable when removing them from testing causes no dependency
problems.
Bugs which have been reported against this package are not automatically
removed from the Bug Tracking System. Please check all open bugs and
close them or re-assign them to another package if the removed package
was superseded by another one.
Thank you for reporting the bug, which will now be closed. If you
have further comments please address them to 323678@bugs.debian.org.
This message was generated automatically; if you believe that there is
a problem with it please contact the archive administrators by mailing
