Package: gimp
Version: 2.2.7-1
Severity: wishlist
Hi,
the new development version 2.3.3 was reported to support a new selection
mechanism: SIOX ("Simple Interactive Object Extraction"). This is a pretty
neat feature and might perhaps be a noce reason to provide an additional
development version gimp2.3 as we did for gimp1.3 in the past.
Thanks for maintaining gimp
Andreas.

Message #10 received at 322568@bugs.debian.org (full text, mbox, reply):
The reason gimp1.3 was packaged was because it was a very long development
cycle, and gimp 2.0 wasn't released until long after GNOME 2. gimp 2.4 is
probably going to be released in a couple of months, so it doesn't make a
lot of sense to package a separate version. Once 2.4 is getting close,
I'll probably upload some late-2.3 packages to experimental.
The SIOX plug-in is available as a separate tarball which you're welcome
to package for Debian, but it's not as good as the built-in GIMP tool.

OK - if this is the case feel free to close this bug. My impression
from the news article I have read was quite a similar situation than
with 1.3 and a long period untiul 2.4 would be released.

I'm looking foreward for these experimental packages.
Kind regards
Andreas.
