Severity: normal

The current maintainer of tuxtype, Rune B. Broberg <mihtjel@mihtjel.dk>,
has no more time for his package, and meanwhile a number of copyright issues
cropped up.

Please read the buglog of #218908, and look into what to do about this. Maybe
ask for removal from sarge too, depending on what exactly the issues are.

If you want to be the new maintainer, and looked into the above, please take
it -- see http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Description: Educational Typing Tutor Game Starring Tux
TuxTyping is an educational typing tutorial game starring
Tux, the Linux Penguin. The player guides Tux to eat fish
which are falling from the top of the screen. Each fish has a
letter written on it. When the player presses the
corresponding key, Tux will position himself to eat the fish.
The game is intended for children learning to type, though it
does have higher difficulty levels which even experienced
 typists may find challenging.

interested in adopting it myself.)

Yes. I've just uploaded it to mentors.debian.net. Now I have to wait to
my sponsor check the package and upload it to Debian.

Any luck on getting your sponsor to upload the package?

And more interestingly, what have you done about the legal issues?

Subject: looking at state of tuxtype package
Date: Thu, 29 Sep 2005 01:53:56 -0400
OK, I looked at the package on mentors.debian.net. The legal issues are far
from fixed.

The debian/copyright file needs a copyright statement from every copyright
holder, and a license from them. This means (for example) including the
Copyright 2002 Free Software Foundation
copyright from fonts/letters.ttf and fonts/menu.ttf.

It looks like the upstream author has vouched for the origin of the images.
However, you have to track down every single sound and find its origin, to
find out whether it's in the public domain or 'non-commercial only'. You
then need to record that in the debian/copyright file.
Similarly, you have to go through every single font. I know that at least the
Armenian font is copyright (c) 1992 Hrant H. Papazian, with no apparent
license, and so undistributable.

If you removed any non-free material from the upstream tarball, you should
rename it (tuxtype-1.5.3dfsg is a traditional choice).

Actually, in general the copyright file is all wrong. It should look vaguely
like this after the "Copyright:" header (the list of copyright holders is the
union of those listed in the various files I looked at):

Copyright:

Tux Typing is copyright:

Hi,

I intend to adopt tuxtype. I've been talking about the legal issue with Sam
Hart today (former upstream), who stated that a.) Jesse Andrews
("current" (2003) upstream) is MIA and b.) he is willing to become upstream
again and solve the legal issues.

Sam is moving the cvs from sourceforge to svn http://svn.tux4kids.net/tuxtype/
and will use trac at http://trac.tux4kids.net/tuxtype as well.

I've also mailed Fabio and Otavio to get the comments Otavio had about the
1.5.3 packages made by Fabio, which are available here:
http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tuxtype/

regards,
	Holger

Yes.

I've tagged 8 bugs in tuxtype "pending" for a reason :-)

The 1.5.3 package is almost ready, but I still want to polish it a bit, an
upload (to mentors.d.n first) should happen on friday I would guess.
I've also contacted upstream and got some feedback.
