Hi Mike,

Before I forward your K3b bug report [1] to the upstream developers, I was
wondering if you were still able to reproduce that bug with the latest
version of K3b that's in unstable (0.12.4a).

Thanks,

Francois

Hi Mike,

Have you been able to reproduce the bug you reported
(http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=305551) on the latest
version of K3b? I'd like to close it if possible or forward it upstream...

Thanks,

Thanks,

Hello,

I think this bug is still here with K3b 0.12.15 on Etch with KDE 3.5.2,
and obviously makes some problems with USB devices.

Scsi0 is currently provided by Adaptec 2940UW.
Scsi1 and scsi3 are usb bus.

When trying to access to usb dvd, Syslog gives this:

Jun 6 13:37:24 etch kernel: usb 4-6: USB disconnect, address 3
Jun 6 13:37:24 etch kernel: 2:0:0:0: scsi: Device offlined - not ready

Jun 6 13:37:24 etch kernel: 2:0:0:0: SCSI error: return code = 0x10000
Jun 6 13:37:24 etch kernel: 2:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to dead device

And all the "usb / scsi" ring is down.
Moreover, the "pure" scsi Plextor CD burner (connected on Adaptec
2940UW) is only seen as a simple player and trying to access to a disc
inserted in Plextor 4012 freezes all the KDE

Syslog is quite big :

Bonjour Bertrand,

Thanks for providing more info on this bug.

I don't see a lot of K3b-specific errors in the log you added however, so I
wonder if the errors are coming from somewhere else instead. Have you tried
other cd burning frontends (like gnomebaker for example) ? Have you tried
using cdrecord and cdrdao directly to burn CDs ?

It's sometimes hard to track these problems down and I like to try to avoid
sending too many bugs to the K3b developer since he's got a lot of work
already :)

Francois

Bonsoir François,

I'm afraid K3b is quite involved.
I tried to burn CD or DVD with GnomeBaker, I tried to burn in command
line with cdrecord and growisofs, everything is OK.
But as soon as K3b is used, all scsi / usb devices stop working.
By the way, while trying to start K9copy in command line, lots of
lines beginning by "K3bDevice::Device ........" meaning some problems
in accessing to cd or dvd devices.
Sorry, I can't provide, right now, the exact log (using another PC at
this time).

Bonne soirée,
Bertrand

is this really k3b 0.12.15 and if so, does 0.12.14 work?

Hi Bertrand,

The K3b developer was wondering whether you are still having this bug with
K3b 0.12.17 ?

Thanks,

Francois

I don't believe that K3b 1.0 has this problem anymore since nobody has
reported it for a long time.

Please feel free to reopen the bug if it's still a problem for you.

Thanks,

Francois
