Subject: hplip_toolbox opens everytime something is printed
Date: Fri, 28 Jan 2005 19:11:34 +0100
Package: hplip
Version: 0.8.7-2
Severity: normal

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

Once hplip_toolbox is opened, everytime you send something to the
printer, the toolbox opens again. If toolbox is never opened, this never
happens.

This behaviour is very annoying, 'cause toolbox window is very big (in
my opinion). Also, toolbox window should be closed automatically when
printing is over. Maybe, a notification tray icon sholud be displayed
instead, with info for ink levels, or something like that.

Thanks for attention!

retitle 292672 hpguid reopens toolbox always
tags 292672 + upstream confirmed
thanks

Apparently, hpguid is doing dumb things. First of all, printing and ending
a print job are the type of stuff one does NOT want the gui to flag as
status changes...

Second, it is not honouring the option to *not* open the device manager
(toolbox) on status changes.

Kill any running instances of "python /usr/lib/hplip/hpguid.py" as a
workaround.

The first part of this bug report (status changes reopening the toolbox
window) has been fixed upstream in 0.9.1, and refers to #292672 now closed.

The second part of this bug report refers to two good ideas for the toolbox:

1. KDE/GNOME-aware system tray notifier mode
2. autoclose (i.e. autokill) hpguid after some minutes of non-activity
   [should be an option]

[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Hello,

At once stage you submitted a bug report against hplip, and in some cases that
was for very old versions (0.8, 0.9, 1.6).

hplip 2.7.10 has now been uploaded to Debian unstable.

Could I ask you to verify that you are still having your reported problem with
the latest version of hplip.

If you feel the issue has been resolved, could you please forward a short note
to xxxx-done@bugs.debian.org outlining that the issue has been resolved. If
you still have the issue, then please send a short email to
xxxx@bugs.debian.org and state that you still are having problems with that
issue, or even better could ask you to use the reportbug package for
followups. reportbug makes it easy to know which version of libraries you
have installed and which version you are following up for.

Thanks,
Mark
