Good news; thank you very much for the notice. I'll be busy for a few
days but will look at it in about a week, or a bit less.

Hi,

I think that version 0.98 is not suitable for unstable (without several
fixes). First, the problem with lmtt not being really monospaced is
*not* solved. The one that was mentioned in 0info098.txt was something
else (about a misplaced underscore, IIRC). Second, as you probably saw
on dctt, lm.map is far from being complete (only the lmtt family seems
to be there) and the encoding-specific map files are not shipped
anymore. This is easy to fix, but reveals IMHO a lack of testing[1] of
the released material which makes me reluctant to upload the new
release.

Incidentally, ftp://bop.eps.gda.pl/pub/lm/ is now an empty directory. I
suppose there is a reason...

Regards,

[1] Of the TeX stuff, at least; maybe the OpenType fonts, for
      instance, were more thouroughly tested.

0.982 is out there and the fontdimens in the lmtt TFM files are still
wrong. Not to mention the unfortunate version number and the material
being shipped in ZIP archives. :-/

I checked the stretch and shrink parameters in all lmtt TFM files from
version 0.98.3: they look correct, now (i.e., zero).

Ugh. For some reason,
ftp://ftp.loria.fr/pub/unix/tex/ctan/help/Catalogue/entries/lm.html
pretends to give you version 0.99.2 but the link
ftp://cam.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/ps-type1/lm.zip it presents you
points to version 0.98.3, which is why I didn't check the last version.

So, in 0.99.2, the stretch and shrink parameters are still correct *but*
tftopl says:

Bad TFM file: Parenthesis in string has been changed to slash.

The parentheses in question are those in:

  EC Encoding (Cork)
TS1 Encoding (text companion for EC)
  LY1 Encoding (TeX'n'ANSI, Y&Y)
  T5 Encoding (Vietnamese)

(these strings can be found by looking at the TFM files with less). I
suppose this should be fixed.

Thanks,

This should be somewhere in a lmodern bug log. Since it's not about a
bug in the version in sid, but instead about how not to get a bug when
upgrading to the current upstream version, I'm sending it to the "new
upstream available" wishlist bug.

Attached. Should be directly useable with dh_link. Untested.

Some documentation (probably for NEWS.Debian) would be useful, too.
Outline:

* upstream changed some names of font metric files
* this breaks ConTeXt support in teTeX 3.0 and DVI files using the old
  names
* the installed links partly solve this, but (probably) produce
  'checksum error' messages
* please recreate DVI files using the old names
* the links will be removed in etch+1

Simple testcase fr ConTeXt support:

\usetypescript [all] [latin-modern] [ec]
\setupbodyfont[reset]
\setupbodyfont[cmr]
\starttext
Hello World!
\stoptext
