Subject: Doesn't find CD
Date: Sun, 05 Dec 2004 17:07:49 -0800
Package: sound-juicer
Version: 0.5.15-1

When sound-juicer is started, it appears not to recognize that there is
a CD in the drive. The UI appears, but no CD or track information is
shown, and the Extract button is grayed out. Pressing the Re-read button
has no effect. At no time do I hear the drive working at all.

If I look under Preferences, it appears to know about the drive
("TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1612") and if I choose the Eject option, it does
physically eject the disk.

The grip application is able to recognize CDs and rip normally. I am
also able to read data CDs and watch DVDs, so there doesn't appear to be
anything wrong with my drive.

Subject: sound-juicer: Me too, with MATSHITA IDE drive
Date: Mon, 03 Jan 2005 16:10:59 +0000
Package: sound-juicer
Version: 0.5.15-1
Followup-For: Bug #284386

I have the same problem. I have a Matshita IDE drive on /dev/hdg, and
have identical symptoms to those reported by the original reporter: any
CD inserted in the drive is not recognised, but grip works fine.

When I run sound-juicer under strace, it seems to be having trouble with
an ioctl:

open("/dev/hdg", O_RDONLY|O_NONBLOCK|O_EXCL|O_LARGEFILE) = 15
ioctl(15, CDROM_DRIVE_STATUS, 0x7fffffff) = 4
close(15) = 0

It tries to do this over and over again.

Hi,

Does this bug still happen with the version of sound-juicer from
unstable, currently 2.14.5-1, or the version in experimental,
2.16.1-1?

I can reproduce this using 2.14.5-1, I'll try 2.16.1-1 but
because it needs a lot of the GTK2 2.16* stuff, I'm wary to
do it whilst I require the other GTK apps I'm running to
work :) I'll try it at the end of the day.

Hi,

I see upgrading to 2.16 didn't help. If you have time, can you try the
experimental version of gstreamer0.10-plugins-base and see if it behaves
differently?

There are a few reports about problems with playback and ripping that's
solved by this version

My affected system is amd64 and there isn't an amd64 binary in
experimental at the moment: however I'll have a go at building
this from source.

Hi,

Have you had a chance to try with the new releases of GStreamer?
