Package: libgpgme11
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: wishlist
Hi!
I've been wondering why kmail never shows up a crypto-module for S/MIME,
but recently I discovered that this related to libgpgme11: As explained
at http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2004/09/msg00102.html it just
would be a matter of changing the build-depends to support S/MIME. Now I
have to recompile libgpgme11 manually.
Would you mind to compile it with support so the kmail-users (and others
I think) could have S/MIME support out-of-the-box?
Thank you very much for all our work!
Best regards,
Friedemann

Sorry, but gpgme cannot be compiled with S/MIME support until gpgsm,
which is the tool providing it, is in the archive.
But, please, could you check if only by installing gpgsm this works.
GPGME is compiled with the path for gpgsm, and (IIRC) it should
autodetect it and use it.
Thanks,

Hi,
all that is needed to compile GPGME with S/MIME support is adding
--with-gpgsm=/usr/bin/gpgsm
to the configure line. This will work, even if gpgsm is not
available. There is no built-time dependency on any component, nor is
there a run-time dependency if you don't use S/MIME but only OpenPGP.
The only drawback is that the test suite isn't run, and that you are
hard-coding a path which is technically within debian's realm for a
program that must be provided by the user - but the moment gpgsm comes
with debian it will drop right in (and there are debs for gpgsm, just
no official ones).
Just wanted to add that :)
Thanks,
Marcus

Hi,
scrap my last mail, I didn't read carefully enough (I only read up to
"Sorry, but gpgme cannot be compiled with S/MIME support until gpgsm,
which is the tool providing it, is in the archive." and not what
followed).
You already do have GPGSM support, you could close the report (or
refile it under: "add recommends for gpgsm when it is available" or
so).
Thanks,
Marcus

Done,
Thanks
P.S: And it's nice to see gpgme moving again (in CVS, I mean)

Just a note: gnupg2 provides gpgsm.
Currently, gnupg (OpenPGP) and gnupg2 (S/MIME)
are complementary - so we need both to get
the full flavor out of gpgme.
The package even reached testing.
