Hi,

I got:

============================================================================
$ apt-get source fhist
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Need to get 267kB of source archives.
Get:1 http://ftp.dk.debian.org sarge/main fhist 1.13-1 (dsc) [676B]
Get:2 http://ftp.dk.debian.org sarge/main fhist 1.13-1 (tar) [264kB]
Get:3 http://ftp.dk.debian.org sarge/main fhist 1.13-1 (diff) [2757B]
Fetched 267kB in 15s (17.3kB/s)
dpkg-source: extracting fhist in fhist-1.13
tar: Read 1024 bytes from -
$
============================================================================

Note the last output line before the prompt ("$"). I don't get this one
for other source packages. I think this is related to tar, although I
don't have the time now to dive deeper into this, just wanted to report
before I forget it...

Thanks for considering.

bye,
  Roland

Hi!

I see the same thing with ncurses_5.4.orig.tar.gz:
======================================================================
joe@mars:~/src/ncurses$ tar xzf ncurses_5.4.orig.tar.gz
tar: Read 6656 bytes from ncurses_5.4.orig.tar.gz

tar: Read 6656 bytes from -
joe@mars:~/src/ncurses$ tar xf ncurses_5.4.orig.tar

I see the message only when reading the archive from stdin, or when
reading the gzipped archive.

fwiw, ncurses' tarball is done with Solaris tar (since there are 1-2
filenames longer than 100 characters, making GNU tar unsuitable for
this purpose).
