Subject: xfsprogs: source missing for several binaries, package bloated by precompiled i386 binaries
Date: Tue, 20 Jul 2004 23:06:55 +0200
Package: xfsprogs
Version: 2.6.18-1
Severity: serious

The xfsprogs contains several binary files, bloating the archive for no
good reason:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 16302 999 78098 Jun 12 2003 freeze/xfs_freeze
-rw-r--r-- 1 16302 999 75208 Jun 12 2003 freeze/xfs_freeze.o
-rwxr-xr-x 1 16302 999 1070230 Jun 12 2003 mkfs/maxtrres
-rw-r--r-- 1 16302 999 80356 Jun 12 2003 mkfs/trtab.o

In addition, xfs_freeze is without source, which makes the package
instantly non-DFSG-free:

-rw-r--r-- 1 16302 999 0 Apr 2 06:08 Makefile
-rw-r--r-- 1 16302 999 0 Apr 2 06:08 xfs_freeze.c

Of course, this also applies to other files:

-rw-r--r-- 1 16302 999 0 Jun 18 10:08 trtab.c
-rw-rw-r-- 1 16302 999 0 Mar 27 2003 xfs_bmap.c

<hint>If you had not insisted on making the package a native package, it
would probably be easier avoiding these cases.</hint> ;-)

Indeed, this was a simple packaging error on my part, building
the package in a not-properly-cleaned directory.

These files have been deleted from xfsprogs, and were leftovers
in my build area (not cleaned by "make clean").

No, thats not correct, this is a simple packaging error on my part.
("hint" - xfs_freeze is a shell script nowadays...)

Also removed awhile back.

Ditto, removed a few releases back.

*sigh* ... no, native/non-native packaging has nothing to do with
this.

cheers.

Hi,
the main issue is that the 2 Makefile in the dirs where the .o and
binaries are located are empty. There are several ways to fix it, one is
to clean these dirs in debian/rules.

Patch to fix this problem can be found here:

http://hoovering.no-name-yet.com/patches/xfsprogs.260491.diff

Thanks
Fabio
