Qua description, I'd also mention SMIL, since the HelixPlayer is, afaik,
the only player to support that at this moment.

Also see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=181322, where
mdz RFPed helix-dna-{client,producer,server}. HelixPlayer did not exist
back then. HelixPlayer (and, partly non-free RealPlayer) are easier
scopes, but do you plan to handle any of the other Helix parts?

Especially if anyone decides to take up packaging of other Helix DNA
pieces, there will have to be collaboration, using same components and
all that.

I haven't CCed 181322 since I thought that might pollute a bit, but
perhaps I should.

I saw that RFP-report. producer and server will certainly follow. If
someone is familiar with these apps, I would be happy if he or she could
have a look at the debian-directory at
http://gateone.myserver.org/viewcvs.cgi/helix and extend it for new
packages (don't know if it's possible to create the producer and server
from the same sources). The often updated debs for testing (not the
distro!) can you find here: http://gateone.myserver.org/helix

For what it's worth, whether the RPSL is "free" is still an open
question. Moreover, there's no clause in the DFSG which the RPSL
violates.

That said, we went with the GPL so that we wouldn't have to spend very
expensive legal time with this debate.

It seems that this package already exists in the archive. If you have
uploaded the package yourself but forgotten to close this WNPP bug, please
read the instructions at http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp for handling
WNPP bugs properly. You should close WNPP bugs in your initial upload
with a statement like "Initial upload. (Closes: #258417)". Thanks.
Of course, it might also be that someone else uploading this package,
in which case the statements above don't apply -- in any case, the package
seems to be in the archive now.
