Obviously, that should be /usr/lib/python2.3/site-packages with an 's'.

Hi,
I think it would be a good idea to use the dh_python debhelper for this.
And even if you do not use debhelper you can still copy the dh_python
bits from /usr/share/debhelper/autoscripts/*-python into your postinst
and prerm. This also generates *.pyo optimized files. Right now you
only generate .pyc files.
