Package: aiksaurus
Severity: important
Hi,
In our efforts to upload GNOME2.6 to unstable, the GNOME Team
has been testing all Gtk+-based packages to make sure they'll
build and work fine with Gtk+2.4.
Our test showed that this package fails to build, as you can
see in this log:
http://people.debian.org/~ingo/gnome2blogs/failed/aiksaurus.log
This is probably due to the package setting a DISABLE_DEPRECATED
define while building, which disables some widgets from the
previous Gtk+ version, 2.2, while in fact it was expected to
disable deprecated widgets from version 2.0 and earlier, while
the developers of the software wanted to make sure they were
not using deprecated stuff. This thread may shed some light on
this topic:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2003-October/msg00554.html
The suggested fix, thus, is to turn off this flag on the package
build process, if this is really the case.
Thanks,

Hi,
As you can see at http://bugs.debian.org/src:aiksaurus, aiksaurus has
two release critical issues at the moment.
With the release of Sarge looming, I ask you to look into these two
bugs. Either those need to be fixed, or your package needs to stop
depending on aiksaurus. Please post information about how easy it is to
stop depending on aiksaurus to these bugs, in order to help deciding
what to do if these bugs are not going to be fixed in time.
I'd be a pity to lose abiword and lyx in Sarge due to some issues in an
Thesaurus.

[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Hi,
Here's a patch that fixes the deprecated use of GtkCombo the right way.
Unfortunately, two 'features' of Aiksaurus (one which depended on illegal
usage of private members of GtkCombo) had to be removed, as GtkComboBox
does not have an equivalent for their implementation.
* Ability to open the dropdown of previously selected ones, click it,
and search for it right after it is selected instead of having to
press Search or hit enter.
* Ability to press 'down' and enter the table of results.
Other than that, functionality is completely intact and produces no
warnings at all.
Is this a better thing to do? After all, one day, GTK_COMBO will
certainly be removed...
