Subject: Pease don't install boot loaders
Date: Fri, 7 May 2004 22:36:38 +0100
Package: debootstrap
Version: 0.2.37
Severity: wishlist

Boot loaders are installed by d-i and it's therefore not necessary for
debootstrap to install them; they are not needed in a normal chroot
and debootstrap doesn't know about sub-architectures which need
different boot loaders. Please remove:

alpha: aboot aboot-base
ia64: elilo efibootmgr
sparc: silo
mips: dvhtool
mipsel: delo
hppa: palo

Description:
debootstrap - Bootstrap a basic Debian system
debootstrap-udeb - Bootstrap the Debian system (udeb)
Closes: 247906 253229 258055
Changes:
 debootstrap (0.2.41) unstable; urgency=high
 .
   * High urgency upload as per tbm's request.
   * [sarge, sid] No longer install setserial, as it causes problems on some
systems (e.g. #212646) and there is a consensus it is no longer needed in
     a base environment.
   * [sarge, sid] Removed aboot, aboot-base, elilo, efibootmgr, silo, dvhtool,
delo, palo, vmelilo. As per the consensus reached in the thread starting
     with http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2004/04/msg00634.html, the
installation of boot loaders is now debian-installer's responsibility.
     (Closes: #247906)
   * [sarge, sid] Added libfribidi0 to base to make debconf localisation into
right to left languages possible. (Closes: #253229)
   * [sarge.buildd] Drop libdb4.0 for libdb4.2 as needed by perl.
   * [sid] Added libgnutls11 as libgnutls10 is being phased out.
   * [Makefile] Include /dev/ida on ia64. (Closes: #258055)

reopen 247906
thanks

This change has been reverted in NMU because d-i is not actually ready
for the bootloaders to be pulled from base on all architectures, so I'm
reopening the bug for continued tracking of this issue.

Package: debootstrap
Version: 0.3.1.9

What's in base is manged by ftp.d.o not debootstrap, so this isn't a
debootstrap bug; and ttbomk there aren't any boot loaders in base
anymore anyway. If this isn't the case, please file a new bug with
specifics when those packages are ready to be removed from base. Report
closed with this message.

Cheers,
aj
