The current maintainer of parchive, Rene Weber
<rene_debmaint@elvenlord.com>, is apparently not active anymore.
Therefore, I orphan this package now. If you want to be the new
maintainer, please take it -- see
http://www.debian.org/devel/wnpp/index.html#howto-o for detailed
instructions how to adopt a package properly.

Description: Use PAR files to reconstruct missing parts of multi-part archives
This utility applies the data-recovery capability concepts of RAID-like
systems to the posting and recovery of multi-part archives on Usenet.
It supports the 'Reed-Soloman Code' implementation that allows for recovery
of any 'X' volumes for 'X' parity volumes present. It is popularly used on
USENET postings, but is not limited to this use.

I will take over parchive if no one else will, because it's a cool program
that can be highly useful for backups.
I'm real busy, so I can't upload immediately.
I guess this makes me the "maintainer of last resort", if anyone else
wants this package, take it and close this bug.

Just FYI, the package par2 has the recover functionality for PAR files
plus complete PAR2 file handling. I think PAR2 misses the ability to
create PAR files.
Package: par2
Priority: extra
Section: utils
Installed-Size: 252
Maintainer: Andres Salomon <dilinger@voxel.net>
Source: par2cmdline
Version: 0.3-1
Description: Parity Archive Volume Set, for checking and repair of files
A command line implementation of the PAR v2.0 specification. This
specification is used for parity checking and repair of a file set.
If the files in the recovery set ever get damaged (e.g. when they are
transmitted or stored on a faulty disk) the client can read the damaged
input files, read the (possibly damaged) PAR files, and regenerate the
original input files. Of course, not all damages can be repaired, but
many can.
