Subject: debconf: illogical button names in dialog frontend
Date: Fri, 09 Apr 2004 10:29:13 +0200
Package: debconf
Version: 1.4.21
Severity: minor

The gnome frontend has tree buttons, namely Cancel, Back and Forward, that do
what they say. The dialog frontend has only two, Ok and Cancel. The latter is
really Back, not Cancel, so maybe it should be named so. Also a real Cancel
could be added.

I miss one more thing from both frontends: The last question has the same
Forward/Ok buttons as the other questions, so there's no way to guess it's
actually going to finish the configration process and that there will be no way
to press Back or Cancel after hitting Forward. I think it should be named
Finish. It would be even better to have a numbered list of the questions on the
screen with the current question highlighted, if it's possible.

As the name of the frontend suggests, it uses the dialog (or whiptail)
programs for interaction. Since they offer no way to change the buttons,
I cannot do so. If they did, I would.

The debconf protocol does not have a concept of "last question", so this
is not possible.

dialog does allow the labels to be altered from within the script;
I don't see anything that requires changes to dialog in this report.

I'm therefore reassigning this bug back to debconf.

[ Joey, perhaps you meant to reassign this to whiptail instead of dialog? ]
