After e.g. "ipl 0300", I get an immediate segmentation fault
under Linux 2.6.

It seems that Hercules doesn't like the new threading model, most
probably due to some bug (data structure overwritten?). Running
hercules under gdb6 yields:

ipl 000c
> Couldn't get registers: No such process.
(gdb) where
Cannot fetch general-purpose registers for thread 1075697280: generic error

Could you try the upstream 3.x release? I haven't packaged it yet because
it installs some unversioned shared libraries, and that needs to be cleaned
up first.

The rest of this is gdb's fault.

I have downloaded the 3.01 version of hercules and compiled it on a i386
Sarge box running the 2.6.8 kernel.

Hercules 3.01 runs great on 2.6.8.

Cheers,
FJP
