Subject: "No space left on device" should indicate where it tried to write

Package: patch
Version: 2.5.9-1
Severity: minor

When patching a kernel,
I had this message from patch :

patch: **** write error : No space left on device

It should print the file it tried to write (ie /tmp/patchXXXX),
to give clues about what's happening...

there is space on the partition with the software to patch,
but not in the /tmp.

the message is misguiding : the reader might believe there is
no space on the partition he is trying to patch

thanks

Hi,

some time ago I've taken over 'patch' maintenance, and have now
finally found the time to dig through the open bug reports.

Below is a report that has not yet been forwarded:

I've tried to patch the source myself by adding a filename argument to
the error reporting functions, but this turned out to be too
intrusive, so that is better implemented in the upstream version of
patch.
